#11 Luis Díaz. | PL Luton (a)

Writer's picture: Dreadfully DrawnDreadfully Drawn

Sky were absolutely desperate for the upset of the century there, weren’t they? Why else would this fixture be on at half 4 on a freezing Sunday night under the Kenilworth Road lights? I’m not a conspiracy theorist, and I haven’t looked at the fixture list to confirm so will likely be wrong, but I’m fairly sure Manchester City will get this fixture at three o’clock on a warm Saturday afternoon in early May. Like I say, don’t hold me to that.

Bloody hell, if Sky wanted an upset, the Reds were keen on giving them one. First 10 I thought “nah, they’re just growing into the game, something will stick soon”. Turns out they just got worse and worse and worse. Not ideal. Some pretty terrible poor performances on show. I said about four weeks ago, I don’t really want to see Alexis MacAllister in that defensive role anymore. The fact he’s now suspended due to a series of yellow cards speaks for itself. He’s too exposed. Other than the goalkeeper and the two centre-halves, I’m not sure who else can really stake a claim that they played well - all pretty poor.

On Luis Diaz, I also said at the start of the season that he’s got Sadio Mane qualities about him, and that equaliser is the epitome of that as he drags the Reds through the sticky moments when they need him most. Make no mistake about it, it’s two dropped, but just get out there without losing if you have to. The crowd were up for it, the team were up for it, they go a goal up with 10 to go. Just get out there with a point, and move on, and that’s just what Liverpool did.
