Up there with the worst 90 minutes of football I’ve ever watched, that. Toothless from both teams. Neither team really looked like they fancied it. I’ve got so much I want to say, but can’t actually be bothered to say. It was that dull.
That could potentially be the worst Manchester United team I’ve ever seen. Even in the Moyes days, they had a bit of bite about them. Absolutely terrible there. The fact Liverpool didn’t punish them makes the situation even worse. I mean, the keeper literally preferred kicking the ball out of play than passing it to his own lads. What’s even worse than all of that is they’re probably coming away from that game thinking they should have won it.
I reckon both teams could have played for another 600 minutes and neither would have scored. Perhaps Liverpool might have got lucky with one of their 40 yard shots, or Man United might have got one on the counter, but the quality was just so, so bad. I enjoy watching Trent Alexander-Arnold in midfield, but the Reds could really do with him out on the wing. I’ve been saying for a few weeks now that the front three is concerning me, and today just cemented that worry. They’re nowhere near it. And by it, I meant the goal. By having TAA in midfield, it means Mo Salah spends most of the game 40 yards away from goal. Frustrating.
Not trying to be too over-reactionary cause the season is very long, but make no mistake about it, that is two massive points dropped. You can’t even sugar coat it. It’s two dropped, and it just adds extra pressure on the next game. If Arsenal have anything about them, they should be licking their lips at the prospect of pulling away in this league. Whether they will or not, is another thing, but one thing is for sure, Liverpool need to be better.
