Firstly, my thoughts are with Luis Diaz and his family. I can’t imagine what he’s been going through. Too many times last season teams would rock up to Anfield, get an early goal (usually due to a defensive mistake), only for Liverpool to dig and dig and dig until they eventually gave up after realising they weren’t going to find anything. Today they were patient and kept the ball moving until they got that breakthrough goal. It wasn’t particularly pretty, or exciting, but that’s what you need when you have aspirations of winning the league. You don’t want to be the main story on the back pages of the Monday morning paper. Get the win, get out of there.

I don’t think anyone had a stand out performance, I thought they were all 7/10. Maybe MacAllister quietly had his best Liverpool performance so far - I think? Maybe? At some points, the link up play between Salah, Nunez and Szoboszlai looked electric, and that’s promising as it never really felt like they left second or third gear. That Nunez goal is a thing of beauty, and he’s so entertaining. Trying overhead kicks from 18 yards out, just cause he’s feeling a little bit confident after his goal. I love him. One of the first names on the sheet for me. The only downside is that he’s so effective off the bench, and the other lads don’t quite have his explosive pace, that you lose that if you're searching for a goal late on.
The second half felt like an exhibition match, and that's fine. The reds were very clever by killing any momentum Nottingham Forest tried to build up. More of that next week. Can’t be arsed with 3-2 and 4-3 week in, week out. They’re okay occasionally, but the boring wins are what win you the title, and that’s what I want the reds to do.
